Susanville Merchants
Area: Lassen (Susanville)
Year: 1950
Description: Susanville hosted teams from the San Francisco bay area that arrived for a game on Saturday afternoon and then played double-header vs. Merchants nine on Sunday before returning home. Memorial Park diamond had an all-dirt field at that time with only a fence in left field to separate from a chicken farm behind. Barrier in right field was a creek so if batter hit one over the creek it was a home run. Merchants team was comprised of local players as well as many top notch college players from bay area and southern California universities who took summer jobs in the local lumber mills. The team played through the mid-fifties after which semi-pro baseball died in Susanville.
