Description: Here's a remarkable picture of a play in last night's game that aided the C. and H. Sugar team of Crockett in winning the State semi-pro baseball championship. Leo Stanley is caught sliding into the plate, a quick throw from Crockett Pitcher Johnny Fernandez to Catcher Charlie Borreani turning the trick. Umpire Marty O'Toole declared the runner out, although the unfailing eye of the camera shows he is safe and that the ball had not been placed on him as his foot touched the rubber. The batter is Joe Ward.

Description: Photograph taken in 1935 of Red and White Grocery store building.
The Red and White grocery store was owned by L.L. (Bill) Barrett from about 1928 until 1949 and was the main store in town. The building is still there although no longer occupied. It was built in the late 1800's and called the Union Hall. The Masonic Lodge was on the top floor and Barrett's store was below. Population of Maxwell in 2011 is about the same (approx. 1200) as when the store was operating, but it is noteworthy that there are no longer any grocery stores in town.

Description: Reno Garage owner Jack Threlkel (in business suit) opened a baseball park far out on East 4th Street in 1930. The grass-covered field hosted semi-pro teams, with spectators sitting pretty in a wooden grandstand. Night lighting was added in 1940. The property was sold to the Wells Cargo trucking company in 1961 and the turf was transplanted to the Hidden Valley golf course. Nevada Historical Society photo, 1940.

It all happened at Seals Stadium recently. Del Chiaro wasn't seriously injured. The Tavern lads won the game, 5 to 4. Gate receipts of game went to aid managers' building fund.
